Since the
age of 6, I have watched Scotties being lovingly
walked and attended to by their owners. The
breed has always fascinated me, and are not your
‘run of the mill’ canine. Twenty years later I
acquired my first Scottie, ‘MacDuff’ from Mrs.
Janelle and Mr. Ross MacGillivray of Clanchattan
Kennels in Queensland.
MacDuff arrived in my life from Queensland on
the last day of the Sydney Olympic Games and has
filled my life with endless love and loyalty
ever since.
I wanted to have a go at showing a Scottie; I
had been intrigued by people at the local PA & H
Show with their dogs. Hence, MacDuff was chosen
for me by Maxine and Graham Drew of Clanscot
Scottish Terriers and Chris Godden of
Clanwarrior Scottish Terriers. So with my first
Scottie MacDuff we both set off for our first of
many shows and adventures.
Showing a Scottie has been a learning curve of
what goes into preparing this breed so they look
their best – the grooming. When I started, I had
no idea how to groom a Scottie. Through word of
mouth, the person whom I use to see when I was 6
years old walking and lovingly attending to his
Scotties, sought me out. From thereon, Ken
Marcham became my mentor, my teacher of the
breed especially with the grooming and now a
valued friend – all of which grew from a mutual
love of this special little dog “the Scottie”.
Ken has become my partner in showing and
preparing our Scotties for the show ring. Ken
grooms and prepares the Scotties, I handle in
the ring and of course they are loved by both of
us.
The Scotties are an integral part of both of our
lives. For Ken it has been a love of this little
dog for over 60 years now. For me, it has been
an admiration which started at the age of 6
which has now transpired into love for a little
dog which are precious little souls, and which I
have the honour to live with for eight years
now.
I am a member of the
Scottish Terrier Club Inc
(NSW), the
Scottish Terrier Club of
Victoria Inc, and the
British Terrier Club of
NSW Inc.
I chose ThaneCawdor as my Breeder's Prefix approximately 4
years ago, in honour of my first Scottie MacDuff
who was named after the King of Scotland from
the Shakesperian Play ‘MacBeth’. Within the
Play, the Thane of Cawdor is MacDuff. This
personal touch was the deciding factor
when choosing my Prefix.
